Chicken liver and chicken liver acetone powder extracts obtained from potassium phosphate buffer extraction step, heating step (58 deg C) and 55 percent (w/v) ammonium sulfate precipitation step were investigated for their sulfite oxidase activities. The results showed that the enzyme activity of crude extract from buffer extraction step was not significantly different (p GT 0.05) from that obtained from ammonium sulfate precipitation step but was significantly higher than that obtained from heating step in both cases of chicken liver and chicken liver acetone powder extracts. Chicken liver acetone powder extracts had higher enzyme activity than chicken liver extracts for all extraction steps. The chicken liver acetone powder extract from 55 percent (w/v) ammonium sulfate precipitation step was immobilized into polymer films of polypyrrole via electropolymerization technique for fabrication of sulfite biosensor. The resultant sulfite biosensor exhibited the current response to 0.05 and 0.1 mM sodium sulfite in the range 0.17-0.28 micro A and 0.39-0.57 micro A, respectively.
