Efficiency of gut weed (U. intestinalis Linnaeus) in heavy metal assimilation was observed. High concentrations of heavy metals, arsenic and cadmium were found in U. intestinalis collected from areas of Prachuap Kiri Khan and Chantaburi Provinces. Therefore, the efficiency of U. intestinalis in cadmium and arsenic assimilation was studied. Different concentrations of standard cadmium, 0, 0.005, 0.01 and 0.02 mg Cd/L, were added into 3 liters of seawater with 150 g of U. intestinalis, while the different concentrations of standard arsenic, 0, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 mg As/L, were added into seawater with U. intestinalis. The concentration of cadmium in U. intestinalis was increased in day 2 while the concentration in the water was decreased until it reached non-detectable concentrations within day 6. The concentration factor of cadmium assimilated by U. intestinalis was 446-730. The concentration of arsenic in U. intestinalis was high in day 2 and then decreased. The concentration factor of Arsenic assimilated by U. intestinalis was 6.02-86.44.
