Mezhunts, B., Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies, National Academy of Sciences. Yerevan (Armenia)
The possibilities of using dimethylsulfoxide for the determinationof chlorophylls and carotenoids content is higherplants in field investigations where examined. It was revealed that it does not yeild to pure acetone in extraction of the pigments from plants tissue; moreover the initial quantity of pigments in obtained extract is preserved during 8 days and when stored at the temperature within 6-30C. The studies allowed to draw a conclusion that the tested organic solvent can be used in field investigation for the measurement of photosynthetic pigments.
