In the last few years tobacco production turned mainly to varieties and origins which are really usable within the European union and could be sold on the international market. The changes in the features of oriental tobacco are primarily a way to adapt to the market requirements regarding some origins only, not the typical features and the overall quality. The domination of varieties of the Krumovgrad ecotype with Dzhebel from the area of Nevrokop in addition shows the need to research the quality of the raw tobacco produced. The aim of the present research is to study the chemical and technological indicators for tobacco of the Basmi variety group produced in the area of Nevrokop. The object of research were Dzhebel K 81, Krumovgrad 90 and Krumovgrad 78 varieties, harvest 2006. The samples were tested for the following technological indicators: chemical composition of tobacco and tobacco smoke, spectral-photometric assessment, expert assessment and tasting. The tested tobaccos were graded on a complex scale including the most characteristic features of the varieties. Uniformity was ascertained regarding the occurrence of higher quality in Dzhebel K 81 tobacco varieties, whereas higher overall quality was ascertained in Krumovgrad 78 and Krumovgrad 90 of the Yaka sub-region.
