INFLUENCE OF ADDITION OF TRIBULUS TERRESTRIS EXTRACT ON THE WATER CONSUMPTION IN JAPANESE QUAILS | Влияние на екстракт от Tribulus terrestris върху консумацията на вода при японски пъдпъдъци

The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of Bulgarian phytoproduct VemoHerb T - dry extract of Tribulus terrestris on water consumption of Japanese quail - Coturnix coturnix japonica and relation between their water and feed intake. An experiment was conducted with 48 female and 12 male mature Japanese quails from the breed Pharaoh randomly divided in four groups – а сontrol and three experimental groups. The trial lasted eight weeks. All birds were fed ad libitum the same compound feed for laying Japanese quails. The three experimental groups received with the drinking water the tested product in the following daily doses: 4 mg/kg body weight, 10 mg/kg body weight - except of the last fifteen days of the trial and 10 mg/kg body weight - during the whole period, for the first, second and third experimental groups respectively. The fourth group was control non - treated animals. The addition of Tribulus terrestris extract had a high significant negative effect on daily water consumption - P0.01; P0.001. The mentioned depressing influence was highest in the group treated with the highest dose of the remedy. The usе of VemoHerb T modified correlation between food and water intake, also to greatest extent in the third group.
