STUDIES OF MANAGEMENT OF PELON MEXICANO PIGS DURING THE PHASE OF GROWTH | ALGUNOS ESTUDIOS DE MANEJO DE CERDOS PELON MEXICANO DURANTE EL CRECIMIENTO

Spanish; Castilian. Se evaluaron rasgos de comportamiento en cerdos nayaritas del tipo Pelón Mexicano, criados con tres tipos distintos de manejo, que constituyeron los tratamientos a evaluar. En el primer tratamiento, 14 cerdos fueron engordados en clima cálido (Rosamorada) bajo sistema de alimentación semiintensiva, donde los cerdos consumían alimento balanceado formulado con harina de maíz y pasta de soya a libre acceso, más pasto nativo de la región, predominantemente Quenopodium album, que consumían directamente por pastoreo. En el segundo tratamiento, un total de 9 animales fueron engordados en clima cálido bajo un sistema de alimentación igualmente intensiva, con la misma dieta del tratamiento 1, en el que cerdos consumían solamente alimento completo a libre acceso. En el tercer lote, se emplearon 11 animales engordados en clima semicálido (Compostela), con un sistema de alimentación intensiva, en el que los cerdos consumían solamente alimento completo a libre acceso. Se encontró una tendencia general de los cerdos criados en ambiente semicálido y sin pastoreo, a mostrar una velocidad de crecimiento mayor con respecto a los animales de Rosamorada, pastorearan o no. Esta tendencia se hizo significativa (P0.05) a los 120 días de prueba, con un peso final de 51.3 kg y una ganancia de 0.38 kg/día. Los cerdos Pelón Mexicano con mayor crecimiento en clima semicálido mostraron un espesor de grasa dorsal significativamente (P0.05) mayor que los criados en el clima cálido. Se considera que la crianza de cerdos Pelón Mexicano es susceptible de ser mejorada considerablemente en virtud de la variabilidad de resultados disponibles hasta el presente.

English. The performance traits of Pelón Mexicano pigs from Nayarit were evaluated, as determined by three rearing systems based on animal management. In the first treatment, 14 animas were fattened in a warmth climate i(Rosamorada site) in a semi-intensive feeding consisting of maize meal and soybean meal give at libitum plus local available grassland during grazing, where Quenopodium album was predominant. In the second treatment, a total of 9 animals were fattened in a warm climate and fed ad libitum the same type of feed of treatment 1, without no access to grazing. In the third group, 11 pigs were fattened in a semi-warm climate (Compostela) and fed ad libitum as in treatment 2. A general trend was found of pigs to be reared in semi-warm climate and not grazing, to have a growth rate greater than those from Rosamorada, either grazing or not. This trend became significant (P0.05) after 120 days on test, attaining a final weight of 51.3 kg and a daily gain of 0.38 kg/day. The Pelón Mexicano pigs with a greater growth rate had a backfat thickness significantly (P0.05) higher than that of animals reared in the warm climate. It is considered that rearing of Pelón Mexicano pigs is susceptible to be considerably improved according to the variability found in results available up to present.
