The objective of this study was to evaluate malting quality of 24 barley varieties cultivated in different regions of the Czech Republic in 2009. Yields and quality of barley grains harvested in 2009 were compared with those harvested in 2007 as the year 2009 with a delayed onset of spring and lack of precipitation in April was very similar to the year 2007. However, in 2009 the vegetation period was delayed but barley plants managed to utilize June's and July's rainfalls to achieve favourable grain yields and quality.
