The Limousin breed is recognized by their specific characteristics, being the weight of cattle at different age's dependent of the genetic value of animals and the environment. In the semi-intensive and extensive systems of livestock production, growth is slower resulting from diet availability. The aim of this study was to analyze productive and reproductive parameters of the Limousin breed, especially the average daily gain (ADG), according to the production systems used in southern Portugal. It was observed that the ADG in winter is higher, in contrast to the summer. There were significant differences between different sub regions of production, and between extensive system and semi-intensive system of production; also ADG values for males were higher than those from females, probably due to their higher productive capacity in this parameter. Thus, the availability and consumption of feeds or supplements had influence in the ADG, which is also influenced by the production system, semi-intensive system or extensive system. It should be noted that in the semi-intensive systems, animals benefit from various feeds and total availability (ad libitum), and these result in different growth performances.
