Estimation of Infiltration characteristics in Furrow Irrigation.
2004
Taffa Tulu
The estimation of infiltration characteristics of a soil in furrow irrigation is essential for the better planning, design and management of irrigation system. The infiltration parameters were ermined using optimization, one-point and two-point methods. The methods were applied to 12 irrigation events on furrows monitored on a farm at Mutulu, West Shewa in Ethiopia. The soil type at the experimental site has high clay content and develops cracks when dry. The accuracy of those different methods was evaluated by comparing the calculated total volume of water infiltrated into the furrow with that observed in the field. The optimization method was the most accurate and the one-point was the least accurate among the three methods considered for the investigation. The poor performance of the one-point might be due to the low ability of the method to represent the whole furrow length.
