Two levels, 0'05% and 0'10%, of Fermacto 500 (a growth factor) or 2·5% local fishmeal were tested as sources of supplements to an all-vegetable control diet in experiments with White Leghorn commercial pullets. Addition of Fermacto 500 or the fishmeal to the control diet improved laying performance. Generally, increase in Fermacto 500 from 0·05% to 0·10% resulted in increased laying performance which was comparable to that by 2·5% fishmeal. The choice between a local fishmeal and Fermacto 500 should depend on the availability of the local fishmeal and on the present difficulties connected with imports.
