The place of mutagenesis in partly replacing the conventional plant breeding methods is discussed, and a report on various x-ray and neutron-induced mutants of Pisum sativum is given. Selective value of mutants in general and the difficulties encountered during mutation breeding are explained in the light of corrective suggestions. Present and future problems of mutagenesis are evaluated.
