The results of three surveys of the termites on or in the vicinity of telegraph poles are described. The first survey was of the termites active in the vicinity of the poles, the second of the termites thought to be damaging the poles, and the third of the termites associated with damage to untreated wood. The results demonstrate that termites in the subfamily Macroter mitinae are frequent, but that termites inthe subfamily Amitermitinae are likely to cause more damage to creosotetreated wood.
