Prevalence and characterization of crown gall agents in vineyards of Kurdistan province.

Because of ever-increasing importance of grape in agricultural program of Kurdistan province and crown gall in vineyards, this study was carried out. During three years, 59 vineyards visited in different area of Kurdistan and infection rate were calculated and ranged between 0 to 87 percent. In Delbaran (Ghorveh), Serish abad (Ghorveh), Yaghoub abad (baneh), Kasnazan (saghez) and Sarvabad infection rate were 87, 75, 45, 73 and 50 percent respectively. Pathogenicity of some obtained isolates from these areas, tested in carrot slice and tomato plants and they induced callous, gall or soft rot. In addition, tumor like or hairy root symptoms were saw in apple, apricot and plum, but no isolates from these hosts induced gall or hairy root on the test plants. Based on limited plant species that showed gall or tumor symptoms with bacterial agent (only grape), it is probable that, Rhizobium vitis be the main agent for crown gall in vineyards of Kurdistan.
