Investigation on present situation of wool processing (shearing, sorting and washing) of Baluchi sheep in Khorasan province and comparison of that desired situation.

To evaluate the quantitative and quality of wool production in of Khorasan province, the four cities of region which are specific for Baluchi sheep cited. Information was obtained on wool production, wool marketing and processing from ten herds which included 100 heeds of sheep in one of which city, and also from 11 dealers of wool and 4 wool washing and processing industries. Additional information was obtained with questioner. During of wool shearing in each city, on one herd with 150 female Baluchi sheep, 50 sheep selected as control were cut with handy method, and 100 other sheep in 2 groups according to age divided to below 1.5 years old and above 1.5 years old, were cut by machine. Shear wool prepared and specific wool of dorsal sorted for shoulder, flank, ramp and reminder from fleece around. Staple length in one of which body section measured separately. Samples of control and sorted group carding, and then washed and carding again. Six samples of one of each group and city measured for fiber diameters. Data analyzed with using SAS and SPSS software. According to results, fleece weight affected by age, method of shearing and city (P0.005). The was significant differences between age group for fleece weight 1276± 42 and 1426± 31 gram respectively. The fleece weight in groups which cut handy and shearing machine were 1064± 39 and 1350± 36 gram respectively. The results of fleece weight of wool among cities and method of wool shearing were different significantly (P0.0001). The length of wool fiber in cities of Torbat Hidarieh, Gonabad, Birjand and Kashmar were 9.7± 0.2, 8± 0.1, 7.3± 0.2 and 6± 0.1 cm respectively which were different significantly (P0.001).
