Harzandat plain with 18000 hectares area is a part of Urmieh lake watershed and has high ecological potential such as agriculture ,natural source and wild life. This research was carried out to represent the capabilities of geopedologic approch for soil survey. For this mean, a research project was accomplished by the East Azarbijan Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center, Especially in the Harzandat area of Marand city. The main objective of this project was appling geopedologic approach and use new technology such as GIS and for soil survey. Basic method for Soil surveying method was "Geopedological approach"which recently developed into ITC by prof. Zinck in 1987. This approach based on land related scinces (geology and geomorphology) in soil survying operation. In other word, this method replaced on old method of soil survy ing(phisiography). Hovever, areal photos 1:20000, satellite image Landsat ETM+ 2002, digital topo maps 1:25000 and geology map 1:00000 were project materials which prepared by applying both GIS and Rs softwars. Firstly, all required data supplied in digital format and in integrated appling both remote sensing and Geographical Information Syestems some basic maps were created(slope, aspect, lithology and 3D). then geomorphological map created based area photo and satellite images interpretation and field observationon. Then by crossing geology and geomorphological maps landforms unites were identified. This map illustrated that study area covered by 3 landscape, consists Mountainouce(52.7%) valley(2.4%), Piedmont(44.9%) and different uinets related to relief, lithology, landform and soil classification. Sewen Soil family in Two orders inclusive Inceptisols and Entisols was recognized on different landforms. it was concluded that geopedological approach is a suitable method in compare to other convential methods for soil survying.
