Content of total protein and casein in milk of dairy cow's in Latvia

The main objective of this work is to determine factors influence to total protein and casein content and dynamic in dairy cows milk in Latvia. In the present study 1543 of milk samples were collected from four dairy herds (Farm A-D). Dairy herds represent three breeds Holstein Black and White (HB), Latvian Brown (LB) and cross breed XP (cross breed from HB and LB). Dairy farms were with different animal quantity in herds and different milking technology. Monthly from 2008 August to 2009 February together with herd control milk samples were analyzed for total protein, casein, fat, lactose, urea, somatic cell (SCS). All of these parameters were analyzed in accredited milk quality laboratory SIA Piensaimnieku Laboratorija with FOSS instrument CombiFoss FC. Study results approve that milk total protein and casein content statistically believable various in different Latvian farms. The total protein and casein content in milk were significant (p is less than 0.05) influenced by the dairy cows breed and lactation stage.
