To improve sheep performance, more and more attention is paid to the selection of rams and to purposeful selection of pars. The main criteria of ram performance are defined: quality of progeny, and live weight, greasy fleece weight and health status of ram. the aim of the study was to estimate the quality of rams used in the pedigree farms. Eight rams were used in the study, 25 of them were OX purebreed and 75 LT breed (blood percentage LT 100 or LT 50, IT 25, OX 25). Substantially in larger litters were born lambs from rams LV039000330586 (LT 100), FI697358072 (OX 100) and FI1283499111 (OX 100), respectively 2.53, 2.26 and 2.20. The progeny from ram LV039000330586 showed higher growth rate, 256g per day in average gaining 22.2 kg live weight in 70 days. As to progeny performance, the estimation of rams varied from 16-19 points in total corresponding to Elite class. The ram LV039000330586I (LT 100) achieved the largest number of points (19).
