The aim of this research was to determine the influence of brown coal open mine dehydration on the soil moisture and ground water level in the region of the mine. There were not observed any unidirectional in the moisture of the soil profile layers analysed. On the grounds of the measurements it could be supposed that the decisive significance to water balance in the soil was that of the amount of precipitation and its distribution over the period analysed
