Urease activity in soils anthropogenically enriched in sulphur compounds

Biochemical soil properties connected with the cycle of nutrients such as: nitrogen, carbon and sulphur are determined in order to estimate the productivity of anthropogenic soils. The anthropogenization of the environment as a result of the soil contamination with sulphur compund on the area of the Tarnobrzeg Sulphur Basin (Poland) was caused by the exploitation of sulphur deposits carried on till the end of 90s of the last century. The urease activity taking part in nitrogen changes in soil environment was significantly diversified depending on organic carbon and total nitrogen contents, while content of sulphate sulphur did not influence the activity of the studied enzyme
