The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of converting plant cultivation into the ecological farming method, expressed by physicochemical changes in the soil, as well as to compare these parameters with those obtained in conventional cultivation. A 3-year part of many-years crop rotation studies concerning the management of medium-textured Luvisols was covered by the research. Physicochemical properties of the arable layer were determined in 2003 and 2006. After three years of plant cultivation, a loss was recorded in humus, exchangeable cations, and potassium. Bigger negative changes were stated in soil from ecological farming system
