The education of plant protection specialists (phytomedicine) in Russia and Ukraine has been a part of regular studies (trough the Department of Plant Protection or the Faculty of Plant Protection) since 1932. In Bulgaria, the specialists have been trained at the Department of Plant Protection since 1950 and at the Faculty of Plant Protection since 1983. In Serbia since 1959 and in Croatia since 1982 at the Department of Plant Protection. In Hungary, plant protection specialists have been trained since 1959 through one year post-graduate studies. In Serbia, plant protection experts have been trained over the five decades by the Department of Plant Protection at two Faculties of Agriculture (in Belgrade and in Novi Sad). In the period from 1961 to 2008, there have been, in all, 2393 graduates or an average 50 a year.
