In this paper, the author has analysed the system of protection of basic agricultural products, as one of the essential segments of agricultural politics. The analysis is, in accordance with the available empirical data, referring to the period between 2001 and 2006. Apart from the insight of the system of agricultural protection in the EU from the aspect of the latest reforms of the Common Agriculture Policy, the subject of analysis in this paper are the data on the level of protection for a few basic agricultural products. Parallel to that, the degree of protection of the basis agricultural products on Serbia has been quantified, which has emerged because of applied criterions of agrarian policy in the analyzed period.
