The monographic approach includes analyses of 20 autochthonous lignicolous fungal species of medicinal mushrooms from the region of Fruska Gora low mountain chain and the surroudings of the city of Novi Sad (Serbia). Significant data about various activities of organic and water extracts of fruiting bodies were obtained, dealing with the antioxidative, antimicrobial, hemolytic, cytotoxic, neurotoxic, antiproliferative and anticancer activities. In addition, PP1 phosphatase activity assay was performed for the first time in biochemical investigations of medicinal mushrooms. Phenolic acid determination was done with the HPCL analysis while scavenging activity of DPPH radical with the ESR analysis. The first culture collection of mostly lignicolous fungal species was formed. Also, biochemical and microbiological characterization was done. Correlation analysis confirmed that phenolic and flavonoids are present while their impact on manifested biological activities was not dominant. Possibly, the impact of some other nonphenolic compounds are more important. All activities were analysed in details while high activity species were listed, representing the basis for the utilization of these species in therapy of various illnesses in future. The inhibition of enzyme AchE was confirmed for the first time, offering important information about possible usage of these fungi in therapy of various neurological diseases.
