Regarding the production of watermelons from the economic point of view, the size of the early crop i.e. the harvest in the first week, when the sale of these vegetables starts on the domestic market, is often of critical importance. There are numerous papers about the positive effect of grafting on the total crop, but only a small number of papers, especially in our country, deals with the effect of grafting on forming of the early crop. The objective of this study was to determine whether there is the effect of grafting on the early maturity and crop of the watermelon under our production conditions. In each of three years, the total crop of grafted plants was higher, but the early crop was lower. In two out of three years, the plants grafted on a Lagenaria vulgaris Ser. had lower early crop than plants grafted on hybrid stock.
