The aim of this paper is to present the results of evaluation of water status based on bottom fauna composition within selected water bodies of the Kolubara river basin. Forty four macroinvertebrate samples were collected from 12 tributaries and the main course of the Kolubara river. Domination of insects within investigated water courses was recorded. Saprobiological analysis using macrozoobenthos as bioindicators were done. Water quality status was evaluated applying Zelinka-Marvan saprobic index (SI). SI values ranged from 1.189 to 3.273. Values of biotic index BMWP-ASPT were calculated as well, ranged from 2 to 112 and from 1.5 to 8.33, respectively. Based on both indices water quality status was estimated. Unsatisfactory water quality was evaluated for tributaries Barička Reka, Lukavica, Turija and Železnička Reka, while status of the Gradac River has been characterised as good.
