During electokinetic remediation hydroxide ions migrate in the medium and the precipitation of metal hydroxide occurs. In this study the polarity exchange is presented as simple technique for avoiding the mentioned process. The experiments were performed on nickel contaminated kaolin. After conventional treatment 29% of nickel was extracted from kaolin. Experiments with polarity exchange include 4 day treatment on original polarity and 48h on reversed polarity. After that the original polarity was set and run on 2 and 4 days and 28% and 45% of nickel was removed, respectively. This electrokinetic technique shows great effectiveness for remediation of kaolin-type mediums.
