Long-term P and K fertilization influences on soil chemical properties in cambisol, Serbia

The long-term effects of yearly fertilizer applications on soil chemical properties and nutrient availability always supply useful information on changes in soil chemical status. In 1964, research plots were established (randomized complete block design) to test the effects of different rates of P and K on soil properties in cambisol (WRB Soil Classification 2006) at the experimental station of Soil Science Institute in Serbia. In 1998, composite soil samples (0-30 cm) were collected from each of 12 replication plots. Forty years of P (monoammonium phosphate) and K (potassium chloride) application resulted in soil acidification and in decreased amount of soil basic cations due to their leaching. Increases in soil humus were due to the increased crop yield with increased amount of fertilizer, what resulted in the increased value of soil CEC.
