Impact of precipitation and temperature on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) yields in eastern Croatia

The objective of this study was to evaluate wheat yield variations among years in Eastern Croatia, focusing on precipitation and temperature regimes. The data of the State Bureau for Statistics were used as the source of grain yield data, whereas data on weather characteristics (precipitation and air temperatures) were obtained from the State Hydrometeorological Institute. In conclusion: Considerable variation in wheat yield among years was observed, being mainly due to more or less favourable weather characteristics. However, the relationship cannot be explained based on monthly values of precipitation and air temperature, regardless of indications that higher precipitation and lower temperatures during winter period are seen as adverse factors.
