Research was carried out pertaining to the natural population of myrobalan (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) in the Upper Polimlje area (Montenegro) during the period of 1998-2001. The selection process was done in three stages. The first stage consisted of study of morphological and physiological characteristics of selections and the morphological properties of fruits and seeds. The second stage studied the usability of fresh fruit in human consumption as well as in industrial processing. The third stage encompased evaluation of morphological properties of generative rootstocks. Genotypes BP 11 and BP 79 have large fruit with harmonic balance of sugar and acid, so they can be used in flesh consumption. Genotypes BP 12, BP 15, BP 16, BP 27, BP 46 and BP 60 have all resistant colour and good technological characteristics of fruit flesh which makes them important as raw material for processing industry. The seeds of genotypes BP 20 and BP 128 can be recommended for direct field of growing, because they have high germination (92.67 and 89.33%) and the seedings from they receive good marks for getting grafted on budding in August.
