The ability of plants to exist in arid conditions makes possible to manage vital vegetation in some types of extreme sites. This ability is appreciated in landscaping and under production technologies, which mostly depend on irrigation. Knowledge of optimal necessity of water is important for plants growth. The species tested in experiments was trident maple (Acer buergerianum) - relatively unknown maple species in conditions of Slovakia. Primary goal of experiments was to chracterize changes in chlorophyll content in leaves of trident maple during vegetation influenced by differentiated irrigation regimes. The secondary goal of experiments was to define demands of seedlings growing in containers to irrigation during intensive growth of ripening of shoots. The experiments were divided in two variants - the control and reduced irrigation. Fifteen millimeters of water were provided for seedlings per irrigation. It was done for control seedlings three times a week, for seedlings with reduced irrigation only once a week. The chlorophyll content in the leaves was measured four times during two vegetation seasons. After the analyses of variance we found out statistically insignificant differences between variants. The chlorophyll content in the leaves of seedlings of trident maple was not influenced by reduced iirigation. The reduced irrigation did not cause the stress of lack of water for the plants.
