Wood-destroying fungi are the natural and non-replaceable component of forest stands. Parasite ones are taken for harmful but their ability to liquidate the weak and non-perspective trees at the forest stand is very useful. Saprophyte fungi are the main decomposers in nature and soil is the most important result of their activity. Fruiting bodies of some species are very precious not only for very good taste but also because of the possibility to heal the worst human diseases. Relatively a lot of them are growing in Slovak forests, too. They merit our attention.
