A study on feeding regime for crossbred hostein friesian replacement suckling calves

An experiment was caried out at Binh Duong Ruminant Research and Training Centre (RRTC) from June 2006 to October 2006 to determine the amouunt of fresh milk and level of crude protein (CP) in supplementary concentrate, which are suitable for crossbred Holstein Friesian replacement suckling calves to gain 750g live weight per day. A total of 36 crossbred Holstein Friesian suckling calves (7/5 and 15/16 HF) were allocated into 9 groups according to a 3 x 3 factorial arrangment with two experimental factors, viz.fresh milk (220,280, and 350kg) and crude protein content in the concentrate (16,18, and 20%). Milk was provided individually with ad libitum concentrate supply. Results showed that the optimum regime of feeding was 280kg og milk ( everage 3.3kg/day) and 18% CP in concentrate. The regime allowed an average weight gain of 785g per day and weaning weight of 96.45kg at 12 weeks of age. One kilogram of weight gain required 360g crude protein and 6914 Kcal ME.
