Usage of genetic polymorphism of kappa-casein gene is an objective and reliable strategy for selection and livestock breeding. The aim of present study is to investigate the influence of the genetic variants of kappa-casein with respect to milk production and quality of Bulgarian rhodopean cattle. 63 animals of that breed were genotyped for kappa-casein gene through PCR-RFLP analysis. The results show superiority of heterozygous AB genotype with respect to milk production and milk butter. Animals homozygous of A allele of gene show higher protein and fat content. Analysis of kappa-casein gene polymorphism accentuates the influence of the genetic variants on milk quantity and quality traits. That gives opportunity to control selection and reproduction of dairy cattle breed with relation to contemporary requirements of the world milk industry.
