Influence of watermelon varietal features on fruit yield and quality while growing under conditions of Belarus | Влияние сортовых особенностей арбуза на урожайность и качество плодов при выращивании в условиях Беларуси

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were revealed the early-ripening varieties and hybrids of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) with a 70-80 day period of vegetation for their growing in the Republic. In course of the study there was realized a survey of phonological changes of different varieties of watermelon: Yarilo; Mestnyj; Melkosemyannyj; Ogonek; Shironinskij; Chernogorets; Garnyj; Borcharskij; Astrakhanskij; Volzhanin; Zemlyanin; Zenit; Alyans; Rannij Kubani; Romanza; Krimson svit. Also, there were presented biometrical measurements of watermelon plants at the period of vegetation. There was analyzed the influence of varietal peculiar features on yielding capacity of fruits. The biochemical composition of watermelon fruits was given. As a result of the study there were selected variety samples with the highest yielding capacity indexes and the best qualitative indexes: Astrakhanskij; Romanza; and Krimson svit. Nitrate content in these variety samples was 14-17 mg/kg of wet weight that was on 23-26 mg/kg lower the maximin permissible concentration.
