The results of the research of morphological and functional characteristics of epithelium of the mucous membrane of proventriculus of newborn calves with different degrees of ante-natal underdevelopment are shown. The idea about structural and functional organization of mucous membrane of the calf proventriculus with different degrees of physiological maturity at birth is given. Morphometry of the proventriculus vesicular cells of the calves with different level of ante-natal development is made. Morphometry of the proventriculus basal cells is made either. The following conclusions are made: hypotrophic calves with high level of ante-natal development are deprived of superficial complanate cells; the largest vesicular cells are in the bible-bag, but the most active – in the farding bag; hypotrophic calves with high level of ante-natal development have bigger farding bag cells compared to normal developed calves; hypotrophic calves farding bag growth stratum is more voluminous then normal developed calves stratum; hypotrophic calves basal cells have evident mitosis elements.
