Present situation and perspectives of potato (Solanum tuberosum) production in the Republic of Belarus were analyzed. Role of scientific research in innovation development of potato growing branch was shown. Belarus is included into ten leading potato production countries in the world, and it is one of the leading world countries on potato production per capita (800-900 kg). The general world tendency of reduction of areas for potato cultivation was marked in the Republic. Aims and results of realization of the State Programme of Potato Production for 2006-2010 were analysed.
