Tree fruit extension in close cooperation with stakeholders

The description of extension activities for fruit-growing at ACW Research Station since 2004 shows how stakeholders needs have been systematically integrated in applied research by implementing a well structured annua process, both in priority-setting and evaluation of projects. Extension is expected to cover the whole range of topics arising in practice, be it varieties and rootstocks, training systems and other technical items or challenges in plant protection and plant physiology, but also economical questions. In order to successfully solve more complex problems and to benefit from third money funds, a close cooperation with more fundamental research activities and scientific networks is essential. In times of ever shrinking resources, all partners, in practice as well as in the entire knowledge-system, are called upon to bundle their forces and to strengthen priority-setting and cooperation.
