STUDIES ON IN VITRO (PEPSIN/PANCREATIN) DIGESTIBILITY OF TROPICAL TREE FOLIAGE FOR FEEDING PIGS | ESTUDIOS DE DIGESTIBILIDAD IN VITRO (PEPSINA/PANCREATINA) DE FOLLAJES DE ARBOLES TROPICALES PARA ALIMENTAR CERDOS

Se determinó la composición química y la digestibilidad in vitro (DIV, pepsina/pancreatina) en muestras representativas de cinco follajes arbóreos: algarrobo (Albizia lebbek), piñón florido (Gliricidia sepium), guásima (Guazuma ulmifolia), marpacífico (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) y morera (Morus alba). En líneas generales, la DIV de MS y materia orgánica estuvo en el rango de 30.6-48.0% y 33.3-46.7% respectivamente. El rango hallado para la DIV del N fue algo mayor, entre 45.6 y 65.5%. Los valores encontrados para el contenido de N y digestibilidad in vitro del N (DIVN) fueron menores para la guásima (2.29 y 45.6%) en relación con los restantes productos a pesar de tener un contenido de fibra cruda y fibra neutro detergente similar al piñón florido pero superior al del algarrobo. La DIV tanto de MS como de materia orgánica fue superior en el piñón florido (48.0 y 46.7 % respectivamente) y en el marpacífico (46.6 y 33.3% respectivamente). Sin embargo no fueron significativamente superiores al algarrobo en relación con la DIVN. El contenido de fibra cruda y fibra detergente neutro influyó de manera negativa en la DIV de la MS y la materia orgánica. No se halló ninguna asociación significativa entre la DIVN y el nivel de fibra, probablemente por la dependencia en gran medida de la naturaleza del N ligado a la fibra en las muestras examinadas.

English. The chemical composition and in vitro digestibility (IVD, pepsin/pancreatin) of foliages from carob (Albizia lebbek), gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium), guásima (Guazuma ulmifolia), hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) and mulberry (Morus alba) were determined. Overall, IVD of DM and organic matter was in the range of 30.6-48.0% and 33.3-46.7% respectively. The range for IVD of N was rather higher, between 45.6 and 65.5%.Guásima showed the lowest values (2.29 and 45.6% respectively) for N content and in vitro N digestibility in spite of their similar or even highest concentration of crude fibre and neutral detergent fibre concentration as compared to gliricidia and carob. In vitro dry matter and organic matter digestibility were higher in gliricidia (48.0 and 46.7 % respectively) and hibiscus (46.6 and 33.3% respectively). However, in terms of in vitro N digestibility, gliricidia and hibiscus were not significantly better than carob. Crude fibre and neutral detergent fibre had a negative influence on dry matter and organic matter digestibility. It was not found any significant interdependence between N in vitro digestibility and the fibre level probably due to the dependence of the N linked to fibre in the examined
