A NOTE ON DIGESTIBILITY INDICES IN GROWING PIGS GIVEN TORULA YEAST AND SYRUP OFF | NOTA ACERCA DE INDICES DIGESTIVOS EN CERDOS EN CRECIMIENTO ALIMENTADOS CON LEVADURA TORULA Y SIROPE DE REFINERIA

Un total de 12 cerdos YLxD machos castrados con 35 kg de peso vivo inicial fueron distribuídos al azar en dos tratamientos para comparar índices de digestibilidad de dietas que contenían harina de soya o levadura torula como la única fuente de proteína y sirope de refinería. La MS fecal fue significativamente menor (P0.01) en los cerdos alimentados con levadura torula en comparación con los de harina de soya. No hubo efecto de tratamiento en ninguno de los índices de digestibilidad boca-recto medidos por el método indirecto. La digestibilidad del N y la energía fue alta tanto en la dieta de levadura torula (81.9 and 90.8% respectivamente) como en la de harina de soya (80.4 and 90.2% respectivamente). Se sugiere que no hay desventajas en la utilización digestiva de la proteína y la energía si los cerdos son alimentados con levadura torula en vez de harina de soya en dietas altamente digestibles hechas con productos de la industria azucarera tales como el sirope de refinería. A total of 12 YLxD castrate male pigs of 35 kg live weight were alloted at random into two treatments to compare digestibility indices of diets containing either soybean meal or torula yeast as the only source of protein and syrup off. Faecal DM content was significantly lower (P0.01) in pigs fed torula yeast than in that given soybean meal (23.2 and 31.9% respectively). There was no treatment effect on any mouth-to-rectum digestibility indices as measured by the indirect method. Nitrogen and energy digestibility values were high either for the torula yeast (81.9 and 90.8% respectively) or soybean meal based diet (80.4 and 90.2% respectively). It is suggested that there are no disadvantages in digestive utilization of protein and energy if pigs are given torula yeast instead soybean meal in highly digestible sugar industry products such as syrup off.
