The objective of the present study was to update a prediction equation for sow's live weight presented to the 2009 ITEA Conference edition, now using body condition score (CC), backfat thickness (BF2) and morphometric measures (HG: heart girth and FF: flank to flank) from Landrace x Large White sows at different farrowing number (0-10) and at three different moments (according to the sow physiological state). A total of 530 measurements were performed on 168 sows on weaning, day 36 and day 110 of gestation (moments 1, 2, and 3, respectively). Sows were individually weighed in each moment and CC, BF2 and morphometric measurements (HG and FF) were measured. In general, measurements HG and FF showed a better correlation with body weight of the sow than BF2 and CC showing the highest values of R2 adjusted and lower residual value. Moreover, there was a gradual improvement of prediction value when variables "farrowing number" and "moment" were added to the model. Variables BF2 and CC were finally not included in the model because were not significant to predict body weight. In conclusion, compared with the 2009 equation, sow morphometric measures HG and FF together keep being a good tool to predict body weight also in Landrace x Large White sows, when we take into account the farrowing number and the moment evaluated in this study. Finally, FF measurement in the current experiment showed better prediction capacity than in the 2009 study.
