Rice striped stem borer, Chilo suppressalis Walker (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is the key pest of rice in Northern Iran It is overwintered with complete larvae inside rice stems at paddy fields. That is proper infective source for transporting from overwintering generation to later generation. Hence, an investigation included three experiments was conducted in 9 locations of Mazandaran province through 2006 _ 2008. Each plot size and rice cultivar were 3000m2, local-Tarom,respectively. After harvesting, sampling were carried out 5 times,as each in the country were counted 40 quadrates 0.5×0.5 m field text& around.repeatedly,at spring, were sampled 2 times from egg masses in nurseries . Each nursery were sampled 20 quadrates 0.5×0.5 m and were sampled 40 quadrates 0.5×0.5 m for determining Deadhearts percent. The results indicated that the trend of larval density was diminished. As number of live larvae were determined 2.38,1.68,1.26,0.81 and 0.63 respectively at months. Also, number of egg masses was very low in nurseries. the highest Deadhearts were related to Mashadikola and Ganjkola in the regions, 3.75 and 3.46 percent , the lowest Bolekola and Kashikola in the regions ,0.4 and 0.57 respectively. Early and late transplanting time are major reseonable high Deadhearts. But, on time planting is low Deadhearts. On the basis related study, We recommended that for managing striped stem borer ,Chilo suppressalis Walk in rice nurseries do not need to use insecticides.
