In Order to determine the desired size of sheep fat tail of 4 Iranian native sheep breeds, namely Moghani, Makuee, Sanjabi and kordi. This study has been carried out using 108 sheep. The measurement methools were as fallow: 1)Measuring of lenght, width and depth of fat tail at the unit of mm by vernier calliper as first index ( F- I ); 2)Drawing of back part of fat tail using transparent sheep to estimate the related area through Planimeter as second index ( 2nt _ I );3)The similar method was used to estimated area by cell counting of chess Sheet. The above estimated area multyplied by fat tail Sheep depth to calculate volume Size as third index ( 3rd _ I ); 4)A special tool was designed to estimate volume Size of fat tail Sheep immersing into water tank as fourth index (4th _ I );All of methods were used befor slaughtering. Then all fat tail weighed after slaughtering with digital balance. The pearson correlation of 4 earlier meationed methods with post _ slaughter fat tail weights were estimated. The results indicated that F- I and 3rd _ I had higher correlation with post _ slaughter fat tail weight ( 0.7834 and 0.7981 , respectively ) .Although, The 4th _ I Showed higher correlation for Moghani breed ( 0.7378 ) but it was lower in other breeds.
