Request for high seed yields of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) increases rapidly. For obtaining high yields fertilization is essential. There is a lack of information about the effect of supplementary sulphur and nitrogen on physiological processes in plants, such as photosynthesis as a yield forming factor. The aim of the work was to explain changes of chlorophyll a fluorescence parameter in spring oilseed rape leaves and yield changes affected by sulphur and nitrogen supply. During laboratory experiments changes of chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters and during field experiment changes of yield parameter under different nitrogen and sulphur supply (control, S18N15, S18N55, S36N55, S0N55) were observed. Laboratory experiments were carried out at University of Latvia, Faculty of Biology in 2009, but field experiments – at farmer's field in Priekuli municipality in 2010. There was found out in laboratory experiments that chlorophyll a fluorescence parameter Fv/Fm can be used to describe sulphur and nitrogen supply efficacy on spring oilseed rape. Significant (+0.34 t haE-1) oilseed rape yield increase was observed in field experiment under optimal (S18N55) nutrient supply, but lack of sulphur leads to significant yield loss.
