Museum in cultural environment of countryside | Muzejs lauku kultūrvidē
2011
Poca, S., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia)
The museum is one of the key factors for developing the cultural environment of the countryside. The aim of this paper is to clarify how a museum with its presence and activity affects the cultural environment of the countryside. The conclusion can be drawn from the interviews with the directors of the countryside museums in Kurzeme and Zemgale regions that, potentially, museums have wide opportunities to affect positive development of the countryside and to promote accumulation of cultural capital, in particular, taking into account the activities and personal interests of the museum employees. Problems are brought about by objective conditions – lack of financing, insufficient infrastructure, as well as by subjective factors – the growing indifference in society, particularly in the young generation, regarding cultural values.
