The article discusses the topic of ethnic stereotypes in the modern Latvian- and Russian-language press in Latvia. The theme was chosen due to its relevance in contemporary society. The aim of the study is to identify ethnic stereotypes which are broadly presented in the Latvian and Russian printed media. The Conflict theory and symbolic interactionism are examined in detail to offer some explanations, which provide a theoretical framework for the empirical part of the study. In the empirical study, the contents of various Latvian printed media sources have been analyzed. The following national newspapers were examined: ''Neatkarīgā Rīta Avīze'', ''Diena'', ''Час'', ''Вести Сегодня'', during the period from October 1st, 2009 and March 31st, 2010. The results of the study show that negative ethnic relationships, stereotypes and conflicts still do exist in the modern Latvian society. Nevertheless, it is never a dominant theme in the printed media.
