The action of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) has been studied on several apple varieties: Jonagold, Idared, Golden Delicious, and Reinette Simirenko during their storage. Two concentrations were used for comparison: 68 mg/ml and 136 mg/ml. It was identified that after the treatment with 1-MCP the degree of starch hydrolization is less comparing to control. Titration acidity diminished during the storage of treated fruits, the firmness was higher in the treated fruits. There were no significant differences between the two used doses. A variety of factors must be taken into consideration when using 1-MCP, especially the cultivar, development stage, time for harvest, multiple applications, etc.
