Jatropha fruit briquetting machine
2010
Results showed that the heating value of the produced briquette with binder increases by more than 17% compared with those briquettes without binder depending upon the ratio of the grinded Jatropha fruit to the cassava binder. Based on the fuel material test, it was proven that 100% mixture of these materials yielded the maximum heating value of almost 18 MJ/kg of the mixed fuel material. Its ash content (less than 5%) was within tolerable standard value for briquettes. The machine has a briquetting efficiency of more than 86% which was within the standard efficiency value and comparable with the other existing briquetting machines. It can produce uniform sized briquettes at an average rate of more than 15 kg/hour depending on the required sizes to be produced. In terms of density and friability values, the produced briquettes yielded results of 1.0581 g/ml and 85.97%, respectively which were within the required standard values. Density refers to the compactness of the briquetted material and must be more than the density of water (1 g/ml). Friability is a measure of the briquette's resistance to mechanical action during handling and transporting, and must be more than 50% of its original weight to be a good quality briquettes.
