Morphometric evaluation of the heart, kidneys and adrenal glands of goat (Capra hircus) using image analysis system

Present studies were conducted on the blood pressure related organs viz., heart, kidneys and adrenal glands of 36 apparently healthy goats comprising of three age groups; kids (6-9 months), yearlings (13-21 months) and adults (21-24 months). Each group comprised of 12 animals consisting of equal number of each sex. Macroscopic anatomical data was collected immediately after slaughtering. Tissues were processed by routine tissue processing technique and stained with H&E. Histometric analysis was done with the help of digital image analysis, software LUCIA. Macroscopic studies on the heart of goat revealed that it weighed 94.47 plus minus 5.86 g, 7.89 plus minus 0.14 cm long, 5.56 plus minus 0.20 cm wide, having 14.30 plus minus 0.34cm coronary circumference. While, mean relative heart weight was recorded as 0.44 plus minus 0.01%. Thickness of right and left atria walls were 0.15 plus minus 0.01 cm and 0.25 plus minus 0.02cm.
