Growth, yield and quality performance of cotton variety BH-160 (Gossypium hirsutum L.) as influenced by plant spacing under Toba Tek Singh conditions

A field experiment was conducted at farmer field in Toba Tek Singh to study the effect of plant spacing on yield of approved variety of cotton during kharif season. Maximum plant population (8.89m-2) was found in plots, where plants were spaced at 15 cm followed by the plants spaced at 30 cm apart (5.938 m-2). Minimum plant population m-2 (3.632) was recorded in plots sown at 37.5 cm distance. Plant spacing did not influenced number of monopodial branches per plant and the results were non-significant. However, plant spacing of 22.5 cm and 30 cm gave slightly more number of monopodial branches per plant (2.125). Maximum number of sympodial branches per plant (15.102) was recorded in plant spacing of 22.5 cm and minimum number of sympodial branches per plant (10.952) was found in the plots at 37.5 cm plant spacing.
