Response of foliar application of KNO3 on growth, yield and lint quality of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum)

The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design. Soil was loamy in nature. Net plot size was 3x5 m-2 in which row spacing was maintained 2.5 feet with planting distance of 9 inches by dibbling. Four different levels of potassium: 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% were sprayed along with control and water in two different blocks. In one block only one spray on flowering and in the other block three times foliar spray: first at flowering, second and third at 14 days interval was applied on cotton variety NIAB-111. Potassium nitrate was used as a source of potassium. Plant height, biomass, number of bolls, numbers of leaves per plant, boll weight and all fibre quality parameters were significantly affected by increasing concentrations of foliar potassium. As number of leaves, number of sympodial branches, number of bolls, plant biomass, GOT%, micronaire of fibre, uniformity of fibre, fibre length and fibre strength were significant at 2% application of foliar potassium.
